    PLUS… Key Dates This Week

    1. Geneva is First

Beginning Wednesday at midnight, Geneva County will be the very first to have its property insured by the ACCA Liability Self-Insurance Fund Inc. Almost 40 counties are expected to follow by insuring their structures, automobiles and heavy equipment through this new service on October 1. Coverage for Geneva County comes almost two months ahead of schedule and is more evidence of the financial and operational strength of the Association’s insurance programs. For more information, contact Henry van Arcken (334-263-7594 // hvanarcken@alabamacounties.org).

    2. New Faces in Leadership

District caucuses during the Association’s Annual Convention earlier this month selected several new faces to serve in leadership positions over the next 12 months. Among the first-time members of the ACCA Board of Directors or Legislative Committee elected by their peers are:

    Board of Directors
    Barry Moore, Franklin County
    Marcie Foster, Cherokee County
    David Carrington, Jefferson County
    Tucker Dorsey, Baldwin County

    Legislative Committee
    Bobby Everett, Winston County
    Ben Harrison, Limestone County
    David Kelley, Marshall County
    Laura Cobb, Cleburne County
    Chance Corbett, Russell County
    Ronda M. Walker, Montgomery County
    Michael Armistead, Choctaw County

    3. Convention Resources Available Online

As always, the 88th Annual Convention delivered mountains of valuable information for county officials and county staff leaders. Many of the presentations and handouts are collected for you online, including slides and videos from keynote speaker Ted Abernathy, who spoke on “Setting the Stage for the Future: Alabama in 2040.”

PLAN 2016 honored at 2016 ACCA Convention

If you enter your second term in November, now is the time to plan how you will take your effectiveness to the next level. PLAN, ACCA’s Practical Leadership Action Network, is a leadership development program for commissioners, chairs and chair/probate judges who were first elected in 2012 and who will begin their second term of office in November 2016. PLAN will emphasize hands-on learning about successful programs in other Alabama counties, the state Legislature, Congress, as well as ACCA’s insurance funds and affiliate organizations for key county staff leaders (emergency managers, engineers, administrators, etc.). As part of PLAN 2018, each participant will be mentored by a member of the PLAN 2016 class, and – with the input of their peers – will implement a “passion project” in their home county. Putting Convention Photos to Work

Here is a quick idea for getting the most out of the convention photos on social media:

Share photos of your county’s award winners on your personal or official accounts. Each one of those professional certifications represents a huge commitment to providing excellent county services to your citizens!

And wouldn’t county staff members appreciate a “shout out” from a commissioner?
