  • 400 and Counting

Through its bid letting on Dec. 5, 2014, the Alabama Department of Transportation has now let some 400 local road and bridge construction projects to contract as part of the ATRIP program initiated by Gov. Robert Bentley. The bid projects total $484 million, including both local and federal funds. County-sponsored projects make up 73 percent (or a total of 292) of those bid through December 5.

As impressive as the numbers are, more than 700 projects still remain in the program. Bridges now make up approximately half of the remaining projects. Counties are encouraged to review the status of the projects and to increase their emphasis on completing projects as quickly as possible.

Deadline Extended: Membership Directory Proofs due 12/16

Much appreciation is expressed for the hard work and input of everyone in county government who contributes to updating ACCA’s Annual Membership Directory. The 2015 edition, featuring many new faces, will publish in January. You have one more day to return your proofs to ACCA – the new deadline is noon tomorrow. If for any reason, your county has not received a proof of your updated pages or you have other questions, please contact Sallie Gowan (334-263-7594 or sgowan@alabamacounties.org.)

    Coffee in February

The annual Coffee @ the Courthouse events will be held in February just before the start of the 2015 regular legislative session.  The Association staff has confirmed the hosts for this year’s event and will be providing counties with resources to make final preparations.  The informal gatherings will provide county commissioners, probate judges, sheriffs and tax officials the opportunity to discuss the upcoming session with their local state Representatives and Senators.
