  • Talladega County, welcome aboard

ACCA is pleased to welcome Talladega County to the ACCA Workers’ Compensation Self-Insurers’ Fund effective Oct. 1. Talladega makes the 59th county where commissioners have found that the best way to manage risk is through a self-insurance pool composed of counties and governed by county leaders. There’s no profit motive, and coverage is custom-designed for county needs. Questions? Call Henry van Arcken, ACCA director of insurance services, 334-263-7594.

Wage, Salary & Benefits Survey released

Many thanks to the 45 counties that provided information for the recent County Wage, Salary & Benefits Survey. Results were released last week in a 285-page report available for download. County leaders will find useful information to compare compensation available for county positions in a variety of departments. Many thanks too to the Auburn University Center for Governmental Services for conducting the survey and compiling the information.

When the newly formed governing board for the Local Government Health Insurance Program met last week, the board unanimously elected Roger Rendleman, county administrator in Lee County, as chairman. Rendleman was appointed to the board by ACCA and has previously served on the program’s advisory board. The new nine-member board, which will officially take control of the program Jan. 1, includes four others with county connections: Crenshaw County Commissioner Charlie Sankey, Madison County Commissioner Phil Riddick, Shelby County Finance Manager Butch Burbage and Mike Gillespie, former commission chairman in Madison County.

    New calendar at

There have been a few improvements to the built-in calendar on ACCA’s website, and the hope is that they will make it more user-friendly for you. There’s still a red “Register for this event” button, but it is now located nearer the top of your screen and on the right-hand side.
