    ACCMA Comes to Montgomery

    There’s still time for elected officials and county employees to register for the Alabama City/County Management Association’s 2015 Winter Conference next month. The dates are Feb. 11-13, and the location is the Renaissance Montgomery. Hot topics that will be addressed include the Affordable Care Act, risk management and Alabama’s political economy.

     

    House and Senate Both Form Committees Dedicated to Local Government

    During the recent organizational session of the Alabama Legislature, there was big news from the Senate, where a County and Municipal Government Committee was created. This is an important recognition of the significant legislative issues that are specific to local government, and the new chairman, Sen. Paul Sanford, has sponsored ACCA legislation in past years. Take a look at these committee rosters to see if one of your legislators serves on these important panels.

     

    Alabama Damage Prevention Summit set for June

    Each year the Alabama Damage Prevention Summit brings together all stakeholders to focus on best practices and possible changes regarding entities subject to “call before you dig.” This year, the summit will return to Montgomery from June 17-19, and discounted early registration is currently available at the Alabama Damage Prevention Summit website.

     

    Ludgood Launches Campaign for NACo Executive Committee

    ACCA President Merceria Ludgoodis seeking election as the southern representative on the NACo Executive Committee. Southern states will caucus during the NACo Legislative Conference to fill the open seat. All Alabama commissioners are urged to ask their county colleagues across the south to support Merceria Ludgood!
