Hot 5: Deadlines for awards & AAND, new tax exemption takes effect

    The AAND One-Day Workshop is just a little more than 2 weeks away. Members will want to make sure they are registered for the day of professional development as well as a business session to consider bylaws changes. The workshop is Tuesday, July 8, in Prattville.     Awards deadline is Friday

    The awards ceremony is always a highlight of the ACCA Annual Convention, and Friday is the deadline for nominations and applications for awards such as Excellence in County Government (urban and rural categories), Outstanding Contribution to County Government and Tenure in Office.     New tax exemption takes effect next week

    Starting July 1, the Community Action Agency of Alabama and its members are exempted from state sales and use tax. These same agencies can also be exempted from local sales and use tax by resolution of the governing body. Background info and a sample resolution are available on the Association of County Administrators of Alabama’s Resources Page under Tax exemption.


    Economic growth for your county

    There’s still time to register for the 2-week Intensive Economic Development Course offered by the Economic and Community Development Institute, which is a partnership of Auburn University and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. The first week of the course is July 14-18, and the second week is Sept. 8-12.


    Wage, Salary & Benefits Survey closes in 1 week

    County administrators, please make sure your county is on track to complete the online County Wage, Salary & Benefits Survey by Monday, June 30. The data is compiled into an invaluable resource, and it will be great to have updated information available for decision-making in the months ahead.
