  • New Education Requirement for EMA 

    Starting Jan. 1, emergency managers who have earned the CLEM certification (certified local emergency manager) will need specific continuing education by late 2016 to maintain their certification. Counties with a CLEM-certified EMA director are eligible for either a salary subsidy for the director or additional federal funds. Here are the AEMA announcement of changes and then a description of the new requirement.


    2014-15 Safety Incentive Discount Program Guide Now Online

    Members of one or both ACCA Self-Insurance Funds can access the new Safety Incentive Discount Program Guide in the password-protected Insurance Resources section of ACCA’s website. Be sure to read the information carefully as changes have been made to the letter and to various requirements of the program. Please note that when applying for the 2014-15 Safety Incentive Discount the 2014-15 Safety Verification Form must be used. Questions?     January Could Be Turning Point for Prison Reform

    Mapping Future of County Transportation

    NACo President Riki Hokama is focusing his term on transportation and infrastructure, and NACo is organizing a special small group roundtable event in March. Attendees will work on how counties can better use their data to adapt their transportation systems and aging infrastructure for the needs of the future, with an emphasis on transportation and infrastructure apps. Alabama counties will have a seat at the table, since Elmore County Engineer Richie Beyer, who is vice-chair of the Highway and Highway Safety Subcommittee of NACo’s Transportation Steering Committee, has been invited.
