Hot 5: Vote for Burbage & more

  • Cast your vote for Burbage

Voting for the city/county seat on the new Local Government Health Insurance Board starts tomorrow, and counties will have to work hard to help Butch Burbage, Shelby County’s finance manager, beat the odds and top his city opponent. This campaign flyer has some helpful information about voting, which is open until July 18. Here are some things that counties can do to encourage employees to vote:

    1. Post the campaign flyer in the office and circulate it to employees.
    2. Remind employees to watch for their paper ballots. These are being mailed to their home addresses, and they should receive them early this week. They MUST have their unique paper ballot to vote – even if they choose to vote online at www.LGHIP.org.
    3. Offer to collect and mail paper ballots for everyone who brings them to work.

    Safety coordinators training dates

Safety Coordinators need to be sure to check out the revised dates for the Safety Coordinators Training and the Public Officials/Administrative Staff Training. Registration materials will be emailed to each County Safety Coordinator listed with the ACCA.  The County Safety Coordinator of record must attend one of the Safety Coordinator Training classes to qualify for the Safety Incentive Discount Program (SIDP).  Also, at least one Public Official/Administrative Staff person who has supervisory authority in the county commission or sheriff’s department must attend for the county to qualify for the SIDP.  If your county has changed Safety Coordinators in the past 12 months, please let Marcia Collier at mcollier@alabamacounties.org know ASAP.  Failure to have the correct Safety Coordinator listed with the ACCA will affect your eligibility to qualify for the SIDP.

    Independent and third-party candidates

If there are independent or third-party candidates who will be on the ballot for a county commission seat in November, please make sure that information has been shared with Brandy Perry in the ACCA office (bperry@alabamacounties.org or 334-263-7594). Some independent candidates may be waiting for the secretary of state to review their petitions, but go ahead and let ACCA know that these candidates are working through the process.
