  • 911 funds front and center
    The Permanent Oversight Commission on 911, established by the last year’s 911 reform act, will hold an important meeting to review the proposed new statewide funding mechanism for local districts Tuesday at 11 a.m. The commission is expected to discuss and take action on the proposed rate of $1.80 per month which is set to go into effect statewide on Oct. 1, 2013.  The Association’s staff will be present for the meeting.  

    Sales tax holiday for back-to-school shoppers
    Counties must make sure they have notified the Alabama Department of Revenue about whether they are participating in the 2013 Back-to-school sales tax holiday, scheduled for Aug. 2-4. The contact person at is Wanda Robbins. For counties that have previously passed a resolution to participate each year, no action is needed unless their status is listed wrong online or they amend or rescind their original resolution. Counties that are not participating should email that information. For counties that pass a resolution to participate in 2013, a certified copy of the resolution must be submitted.     Jail training for the Safety Incentive Discount Program
    Jail personnel who attended the Alabama Jail Association training last week in Huntsville need to make sure they give a copy of their certificate to their county safety coordinator so the county will get credit toward the requirements of the Safety Incentive Discount Program. Counties that are members of the ACCA self-insurance funds will have another opportunity to fulfill the jail training component at the AJA’s October training in Orange Beach. More details about that opportunity will be available in August.

    ACCA at the State House
    Counties will have a significant presence at the Alabama State House this week when legislators return from spring break because the ACCA board and legislative committee will be in town Wednesday and Thursday.

    Deadlines for engineers, administrators
    Sunday is the cutoff to reserve a hotel room at the Perdido Beach Resort for the ACEA Conference and the ACAA Conference. Early registration for both conferences lasts until April 12.
