New license needed by counties
With the point of taxation for motor fuels shifting from the distributor to the terminal effective Oct. 1, counties will need to get the new fuel tax exemption license from the state Department of Revenue. Read the notice from the revenue department.
Beyer to take over as NACE president
This week Richie Beyer, the Elmore County’s engineer and a past president of the Association of County Engineers of Alabama, will begin his term as president of the National Association of County Engineers.
Friday was 1st ATRIP deadline
As of lunch on Friday, applications totaling more than $150 million had been submitted to the Alabama Department of Transportation in the first segment of the ATRIP program. The road and bridge projects selected for funding in round one will be announced in May. The second deadline for applications is in September.
Insurance surveys coming soon
Members of the ACCA liability and workers’ compensation insurance programs will soon receive the annual surveys to determine the individual exposures for the coming year. Counties are encouraged to return the survey as soon as possible.
Last call for local bills
With the Legislature returning to work on Tuesday for the remaining 15 work days of this year’s session, county officials have little time to work on local legislation. Counties that have not introduced needed local bills are encouraged to speak with their legislators this week — otherwise, the next opportunity will likely be during the 2013 regular session.
