  • Public hearings on solid waste
As part of legislation that put a temporary moratorium on new landfills in the state, there is an Alabama Solid Waste Study being conducted by Auburn University in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. It’s important for the view of county government to be heard during the public hearings that are planned all over the state, so be sure to check out this [download id=”421″].

    Convention theme: Blueprint for Change
ACCA has assembled an impressive lineup of speakers for you at the convention this week – including Gov. Robert Bentley, State Treasurer Young Boozer and four members of the governor’s cabinet. The theme is Blueprint for Change, and ACCA hopes each county takes home ideas and strategies to plan out the way forward. Though some members of the ACCA staff will be working the convention, the ACCA office in Montgomery will remain open through the week.

No premium increases in ACCA funds
An important part of the convention will be Tuesday’s annual meetings of the ACCA self-insurance funds for liability and workers’ compensation coverage. Fund members will receive their refund information that afternoon, and the specific estimated premium contributions for member counties will go out from the ACCA office by mid-week.

    Steering Committees start soon
If you volunteered to serve on a Steering Committee to help develop ACCA’s legislative program for next year, you should have received a letter with meeting information. The sessions start the first week of September, and if you have any questions, please contact Brandy Perry.

Getting closer on contracts for debris services
The bid opening for bids to provide regional debris removal and monitoring services is scheduled for Aug. 31.
