  • Rate hike not recommended
    Although the rates will not be set until the official meeting of the board of control on Aug. 14, the Local Government Advisory Committee has approved a recommended flat rate for the Alabama Local Government Health Insurance Program effective Oct. 1, 2012.  The committee also approved a recommendation that the program shift to a “calendar” year for the setting of its rates, effective Jan. 1, 2014.  The ACCA staff will provide the “official” word following the Aug. 14 meeting.

    No texting while driving
    The ACCA Self-Insurance Funds would like to remind you that the statewide ban on texting while driving is now in effect and county employees are subject to the fines established by the new law. In addition, counties hoping to secure the Safety Incentive Discounts available through the ACCA insurance funds need to adopt a no-texting policy before Dec. 31.

    Joint Bid Program expands into disaster preparedness
    The call for bids on the Association’s effort to make a pre-event debris and monitoring contract available to every county in the state moved forward on Friday when the bid specifications were released. Bids will be opened Aug. 31 at the ACCA office, with the contracts being effective beginning Nov. 1.  In times of disaster, participating counties will be able to access these contracts without the need for any local bidding.
