  • Legislative Issues Webinar on Thursday
It’s never been more important for county leaders to play an active role in the state legislative process, and a great way to improve your understanding of the critical issues at stake is to take part in the next Legislative Issues Webinar. The next scheduled time for ACCA staff members to go live with county leaders all over the state is 3 p.m. Thursday. Use this link to register and you’ll get a follow-up email with instructions. You will sign on from a computer with the option to use your telephone for audio. There’s also an app (search for “gotomeeting”) for smartphones and tablets.

ACCA-sponsored training for correctional officers set for 2014
One element of the ACCA Self-Insurance Funds’ Safety Incentive Discount Program is training for correctional officers. For 2014, this required training will be offered at the conferences of the Alabama Jail Association, either March 26-26 in Montgomery or Oct. 29-31 at the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach. To meet Requirement 8 of the Safety Incentive Discount Program, two correctional officers mustcomplete an ACCA-sponsored law enforcement training program during the coverage period. If you have questions, contact Henry van Arcken, director of insurance services, at 334-263-7594.

PILT funding extended in Farm Bill
President Obama has signed the Farm Bill, which finalizes another year of funding for the Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program at $425 million nationwide.

    Commission candidates
This is an election year, and now that qualifying has closed for the major parties, ACCA is compiling a list of commission seats and candidates that are on the ballot this year. Administrators should have received a survey by email from Brandy Perry, and those can be returned to her at bperry@alabamacounties.org.
