  • Is your county getting a longevity bonus?
ACCA would like to thank the many county members – 96 percent, in fact — of the Liability Self-Insurance Fund who have already executed participation agreements to renew their fund membership for 2015-18. The fund is governed by county leaders just like you, who work hard to make sure you get sound, custom-tailored coverage that your county can afford. If you haven’t already renewed, the deadline is March 15. Questions? Contact Henry van Arcken.

    NACo South Region Update
Alabama is right in the middle of NACo’s South Region, which stretches from Texas to Virginia. At the NACo Legislative Conference that begins Saturday in our nation’s capital, county officials from these states will convene Sunday morning. See this “South Region Update” from Commissioner Joe Bryan of Wake County, N.C., to learn more.

Got your appointments for Capitol Hill?
If you are one of the many county leaders from Alabama headed to the NACo conference, you may still have time to line up a visit to the office of your member of the U.S. House of Representatives and Alabama’s two senators. It’s a great way to make this trip count by building and strengthening relationships with the elected officials and key staff members.

County Day crowds help ACCA legislative effort
It’s always a help to have county leaders in the State House, and your ACCA staff members are grateful to everyone who has made the trip so far this year. There are just three County Days @ the Legislature left this year – tomorrow, March 11 and March 25. This week’s visitors will get to affect the outcome of Danger Bills that are set for votes this week, and if you need to reschedule your county’s visit, please call Brandy Perry at 334-263-7594.

    County teamwork
ACCA and the Alabama Association of Tax Administrators have been working shoulder-to-shoulder in recent weeks to beat back dangerous legislation that would sap county budgets. In another sign of that importation collaboration, the tax administrators have invited Sonny Brasfield, ACCA’s executive director, to speak this morning during their conference in Montgomery.
