  • Workers’ compensation refunds on the way
Checks totaling nearly $880,000 are being sent to members of the ACCA Workers’ Compensation Self-Insurers Fund. The checks include final audit refunds, investment dividends and safety incentives for qualified counties. For counties where the actual payroll exceeded estimates, invoices for additional premium contribution have been sent and are payable ASAP. Have questions? Contact Henry van Arcken.

    Communication cycle for the session
Based on your feedback, your ACCA staff made some changes to the communication plan for the legislative session, and everyone hopes that you have settled in to the cycle. The ability of ACCA to influence matters at the State House depends on your active involvement, so here’s a recap of what you can expect:

    • Committee Update – an e-newsletter on Monday morning that previews the week. Lots of info on good and bad bills in line for committee votes in the next few days.
    • State House Status Report – an e-newsletter on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (the days lawmakers are usually in Montgomery) highlighting what happened that day and what county leaders can do to impact the next day’s action.
    • Weekly Report – an e-newsletter on Fridays containing any happenings of the week that have not already been reported and offering a first glance at the week ahead.
    • Legislative Issues Webinars – an interactive online session where you can ask your questions about State House issues and hear an in-depth status report. The next one is Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. Use this link to register

Of course if you have questions or just need more information before approaching a legislator on an issue, you can always call ACCA at 334-263-7594.

County Days @ the Legislature start tomorrow
County leaders from Baldwin, Bibb, Blount, Clay, Conecuh, Cullman, Franklin, Henry, Houston, Lowndes, Macon, Randolph and Sumter counties will be headed to the Capital City tomorrow for the first of six County Days @ the Legislature this year. There will be lobbying at the State House, and lunch is provided back at the ACCA office. Check the ACCA Events calendar to discover your county’s day.
