  • First insurance incentive checks go out next week
    ACCA and Meadowbrook are in the final stage of verifying that members of the insurance funds have completed all nine requirements of the Safety Incentive Discount Program. Counties in the workers’ compensation fund that completed the requirements and submitted a verification form on time will be notified next week of their cash bonus. The bonus is 5 percent of the 2011-12 contribution up to a maximum of $7,500.

    Save $ through cooperative purchasing
    U.S. Communities, a national cooperative purchasing program for counties, has scheduled free educational lunch meetings in Alabama for you to learn more about the program and how it can benefit your county. The first one will be Feb. 19 in Montgomery, and the second will be Feb. 20 in Birmingham.

    Ethics training required for new commissioners
    All new county commissioners are required by state law to attend ethics training within 120 days after taking office. This requirement can be met by taking the Alabama Local Government Training Institute course, “Ethical and Legal Considerations,” Feb. 20-21.

    ACCA constitutional recommendations
    Votes are expected Friday on some of the ACCA recommendations to the Alabama Constitutional Revision Commission. Recommendations included changes to the Legislature’s process for considering local laws and local constitutional amendments.

    Prescription drug discount button added online    
    To make it easy for Alabamians wanting to sign up for the Coast2Coast prescription drug discount card, there’s a new button on the homepage at www.alabamacounties.org. Look for the red button in the lower left corner of the homepage.
