  • Plenty of ideas
There are at least four different proposals being advanced to generate revenue for road and bridge projects during the 2012 regular session — but none include raising new revenue. Among the ideas are a $2 billion bond issue using the same Garvee Bonds used for the 2000 county bridge program and a bond issue funded by the increase in revenue generated by the new gasoline tax collection program that begins in October. The ACCA staff will keep county officials posted.

    NACo Legislative Conference
As noted in the NACo South Region Update, the South Region will meet at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, during the NACo Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.

    Counting down the days
The 2012 Regular Session of the Alabama Legislature begins on Tuesday, Feb. 7 – just a little more than a week away.

    Subdivision regulations
ACCA’s first bill for 2012 has been prefiled. It is HB 74 by Rep. Steve McMillan, which is designed to clear up confusion about whether city or county subdivision regulations will be enforced inside a municipal planning jurisdiction. Get the bill here.

    At the ACCA office
The week gets off to a busy start, with a large meeting Monday of probate judges, tax officials and business leaders who are working together on a unified set of proposed changes to the immigration law. On Tuesday, emergency managers from around the state will gather for a board meeting of the Alabama Association of Emergency Managers.
