  • County Chat with ACEA
Engineers, mark your calendars for the next ACEA webinar, which will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7. (The webinar registration link will come later in a separate email.) The agenda will include a discussion of proposed updates to the ACEA bylaws that have been developed by a committee of engineers from around the state. The plan is to generally schedule these webinars on the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m.

    4B8MON is finally here
With events at the NACo conference kicking off Friday, the big push of the Stan Batemon for NACo 2nd Vice President is finally here. If you are making the trip to Texas, you’ll be hearing from ACCA soon about your important campaign assignments. Even if you’re staying home, please go to Facebook and “like” Batemon’s NACo campaign page, and many thanks to everyone who has already boosted Stan’s campaign in social media. Election day is just one week away!

    Insurance funds sponsor driving simulator
The ACCA Self-Insurance Funds are making another important safety investment in member counties by providing free training to road department employees and deputies in a sophisticated driving simulator. The training debuted last week in Lee County and continues this week in Etowah County. Additional stops are in the works for other areas of the state. Special thanks to Sheriff Jay Jones and Sheriff Todd Entrekin for hosting the equipment at their offices.

    Joint purchasing agreements
If you need to verify that a joint purchasing cooperative is approved, the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts maintains a list on the department’s website.

    No Hot 5 next week
Several members of the ACCA staff will be in Tarrant County, Texas, next week for the NACo conference, so the Hot 5 newsletter will not be published next week. It will return on Monday, July 29.
