  • Overflow rooms for the ACCA Convention

ACCA’s block of reserved rooms at the Perdido Beach Resort is full. Overflow accommodations have been set up at the Phoenix Condos at varying rates. If you would like to reserve a condo, please call 888-358-1698 and use group code #468543. The deadline for making condo reservations is July 31. If you still want to stay at the hotel, email Donna Key to get on the waiting list. As always, if you have rooms to cancel at the hotel, PLEASE CALL DONNA FIRST AT 334-263-7594.

New logging notice law in effect

The 2012 logging notice law went into effect yesterday, which repeals any local regulations about prior notice or posting bond before using county roads or right of way. (However, portions of local regulations that do not conflict with the new statewide law are still in effect.) The Association of County Engineers of Alabama has worked with the ACCA staff to draft a model notice ordinance and supporting documents to comply with the new law, and every county should be represented at a joint session for engineers and commissioners at the convention to receive copies of these documents. Questions? Contact Sallie Gowan.

    Substance abuse policy

Does your county have a substance abuse policy? If the answer is “yes,” does the policy protect the county under the current law? ACCA strongly recommends adopting the sample policy found on our website “as is.” Questions? Contact Henry van Arcken.

    Seeking your input

Now that the legislative session is over, the ACCA staff is evaluating several things about County Day @ the Legislature. Whether you came for County Day or not, please take a moment to complete this brief survey.

    Happy Independence Day!

The ACCA office will be closed on Wednesday.
