  • Simulated driving situations, real safety gains
The ACCA Self-Insurance Funds wrapped up the second round of driving simulator training last week in Etowah County. So far more than 200 county personnel have gone through the simulator — about half deputies and half from the road departments – and those trained said it was an effective tool to promote hazard awareness and avoidance. Many thanks to the Etowah and Lee county sheriff’s offices for hosting training, and thanks too to the county engineers in Macon, Calhoun and Etowah for their assistance. The next stop for the simulator will be in northwest Alabama in September. Want to see what the fuss is all about? Check out this article and video from al.com.

    Insurance boards to meet
Boards of trustees for the ACCA Liability and Workers’ Compensation Insurance Funds will meet this week and next to set member contributions for the coming year. These figures will be provided to fund members at the Insurance Funds’ Membership Meeting, scheduled for 2 p.m. Aug. 20 during the ACCA Annual Convention.

    Last ATRIP announcement
The third – and final – round of ATRIP funding was announced by Gov. Robert Bentley on July 24. County governments will have a vital role in the determination of the individual projects that will be selected in each county, as detailed in a mailing the Alabama Department of Transportation sent out last week. Counties should closely review this information regarding the selection of projects and contact ALDOT or the Association with any questions.

    Joint Bid Program news
