  • No more preclearance
    The U.S. Justice Department has issued a statement that, in light of Shelby County v. Holder, it will not be making any determination regarding pending or prospective preclearance applications, meaning that there is no need to continue sending applications. To learn more, visit this webpage.

    Grant deadline extended
    The deadline to apply for most categories of CDBG funding this year has been extended to noon on Aug. 19, 2013. Check [download id=”1089″] for details.

    Montgomery basics
    Since commissioners had indicated an interest in learning more about how to effectively represent their counties before members of the Alabama Legislature, a new course has been scheduled for later this year. The course, Legislative & Governmental Relations, is an elective through the Alabama Local Government Training Institute, and it can be used toward completion of either the Level I or Level II programs. It is offered Dec. 3-4 in conjunction with the ACCA Legislative Conference Dec. 4-5.

    New county-level housing data
    The Alabama Housing Finance Authority has released an updated version of its comprehensive demographic analysis. Called “Sweet Home Alabama Revisited,” the report features county-level data based on 2010 census data.
