  • One-time money
Alabama counties will receive about $38 million from a special distribution from the Alabama Trust Fund in April of 2013.  Counties are encouraged to consider these funds as a possible source of matching revenue for the new road and bridge construction program. Read the Association’s memo on this topic.

    Voters to decide
Tomorrow’s Alabama presidential primary has garnered national attention. More than 144 county commission seats will be on the local ballots as well, including nine seats with primaries for both parties. Two counties – Dale and Lauderdale – will be electing commission chairs by countywide vote to replace the probate judge who currently serves as commission chair. Brandy Perry from ACCA will be contacting counties on Wednesday to get election results.

    Lobbying too
While Alabama county officials were participating in the Legislative Conference of the National Association of Counties in Washington, D.C., last week, a team of county emergency management directors were also spreading the message on Capitol Hill. Lead by AAEM President Eric Jones, the group also provided administrative leadership for the Association’s annual breakfast with Alabama’s Congressional Delegation.

    Safety Incentive Discount Program
One requirement of the Safety Incentive Discount Program offered by ACCA’s Self-Insurance Funds is attendance at loss prevention training. A public official or a member of a county’s administrative staff who attends the first day’s sessions at the annual conference of the Association of County Administrators of Alabama will satisfy that requirement. The conference is scheduled for May 16-17. Registration info

    County jail resources
Members of ACCA’s Self-Insurance Funds will receive information this week about suicide prevention in the county jail. Questions? Contact John Hamm or Henry van Arcken.
