Many thanks to the Alabama officials and employees who made the trip to Washington D.C. and joined the lobbying effort to restore the rural bridge program in the highway funding bill pending before the U.S. Senate. Less than a week after the Alabama delegation breakfast, the Senate approved the bill — and the bridge amendment.

    Remember publication costs
As counties prepare to seek reimbursement for costs of the party primary election last week, officials should remember to include the costs of publication that are part of the election. These costs were added to the list of reimbursable expenses during the 2011 session. More information on reimbursable expenses will be sent out in the coming week.

    Liability refunds distributed
Last week refund checks totaling $1 million were issued to members of the ACCA Liability Self-Insurance Fund.  The fund continues to grow and has initiated a Safety Incentive Program that will provide even bigger discounts to participants that emphasize safety during 2012.

    Audit time improved
The final audits have been completed in the ACCA Workers’ Compensation Self-Insurers’ Fund — which means some members received refund checks, while others (with actual payroll that exceeded estimates) have received invoices for additional contributions. The audits were completed in a more timely fashion this year, which enhances the fund’s service to counties.
