  • New sales tax holiday
    Mary Pons has prepared a sample resolution that counties can use if they want to participate in Alabama’s first storm preparedness sales tax holiday, scheduled for the weekend of July 6-8. This memo from the Department of Revenue explains more details about the holiday. Counties that want to participate must opt in by resolution no later than June 22, so time is short.

    Registration open for County Government Institute
    This year is Auburn’s 42nd Annual County Government Institute, scheduled for June 14-15. You can find details on the agenda and information on registration here.

    Still time to help steer NACo
    The National Association of Counties is seeking nominees for steering committees which determine the organization’s national legislative policies. Here are a memo from Sonny Brasfield explaining the details and the nomination forms, which are due to Marcia Collier no later than June 15.

    Training for the Safety Incentive Discount Program
    Members of the ACCA Insurance Funds that have not turned in their verification tests from the administrator’s conference or the online training modules need to email the tests to Henry van Arcken as soon as possible in order to meet requirements #1 (f) and #7 of the Safety Incentive Discount Program.

    Next steps on debris contracts
    On Friday ACCA will host a “bidders” meeting to take input from those companies interested in participating in the statewide effort to contract for pre-disaster debris removal and monitoring services. Part of the Joint Bid Program, the contracts will be awarded regionally and should be available by Oct.1.
