  • County Chat with ACAA
Administrators, your regularly scheduled webinar is coming early this month because of the Thanksgiving holiday, so we will actually gather (virtually) this Wednesday at 2 p.m. Here’s the registration link. One topic that will definitely be on the agenda is the County Administration Update class scheduled for Jan. 8 and 9. If you have other suggestions for this week’s webinar, please email Mary Pons.

    Legislative preparations going well
With the 2014 session of the Alabama Legislature begins Jan. 14, counties and ACCA are busy getting ready. Reports are positive from the Coffee @ the Courthouse events that continue around the state this week, and the ACCA Legislative Committee is meeting in Montgomery Tuesday and Wednesday for a detailed review of the 2013 Legislative Program as well as recommendations from the Minority Issue Steering Committee and Policy Teams.

    Get local bills ready
All indications are that the 2014 session will end as early as the first week in April, so counties seeking the passage of local bills should complete advertising of the local bills by early January.

    Last chance for corrections training
There’s another chance for counties participating in the ACCA Safety Incentive Discount Program that missed the required correctional officer training at Orange Beach this year. You can fulfill the requirement by sending two correctional officers to the Legal-based Guidelines Training offered in Montgomery and Huntsville this week. Download this flyer for details.

Alabama county wins national safety award
Congratulations to Mobile County for being recognized with a National Roadway Safety Award from the Roadway Safety Foundation and the Federal Highway Administration. The county was honored for a program to decrease “run off the road” crashes on 10 rural roads by installing raised pavement markers. [download id=”1270″]
