There are 27 counties in the ACCA Liability Self-Insurance Fund that have not signed up for the ACCA-sponsored jail training (in conjunction with the Alabama Jail Association) Oct. 17-19 in Orange Beach.  A representative from the jail or sheriff’s office must attend the training for the county to complete the requirements of the Safety Incentive Discount Program. Questions? Contact John Hamm.

Designated counties are in the process of awarding bids for regional debris removal services, and bid winners will be announced soon. As for the debris removal monitoring contracts, those services are being rebid. The new bid opening will be Oct. 26.

    One SPOT tax collections
The One SPOT State and Local Advisory Committee – which is working with the Alabama Department of Revenue on development of the state’s new online portal for payment of statement and local sales, use and leasing taxes – elected Shelby County Finance Manager Butch Burbage as chairman at the committee’s first meeting last week. The Department of Revenue is preparing a survey for counties, and it will be imperative for counties to provide the requested information.

Same workers’ comp auditors, new name
Final payroll audit packages were mailed Friday to members of the ACCA Workers’ Compensation Self-Insurers’ Fund. The same auditors are again performing this year’s audits, but they are working under a new company name, Payroll Audit Services or PAS. Because of changes this year, you will want to pay special attention to the Final Payroll Audit Fact Sheet on the last page. Remember to return your audit materials to Don Thomason no later than Dec. 1. Questions? Contact Henry van Arcken.
