  • Directory proofs are on their way
ACCA is in high gear on the 2014 Membership Directory, and the next step is for county administrators to review draft pages for their county, circulate the draft pages to the individuals listed to make sure information is correct and complete (mailing address, phone and email for all commissioners) and relay any needed changes back to ACCA. Administrators should receive their draft pages today, and changes are due back to ACCA on Thursday. Questions? Email Sallie Gowan.

    Changing of the guard
For 25 years now, Muffy Metts has kept ACCA’s financial house in tip-top shape, but Thursday will be her last day in the office. All of us wish her the happiest of retirements! If you have dealt with her on financial or joint bid matters, your new contact will be Lauren Westbrook.

    November is coffee time
During November, counties all over the state will be gathering for Coffee @ the Courthouse with their legislators in preparation for the 2014 Regular Session of the Alabama Legislature. If you are a host county, please relay your event info to Sallie Gowan once the time and place are set. ACCA is working on a template agenda and talking points about legislative issues that will go out to host counties later this week.

    Real safety training, simulated driving
The driving simulator training sponsored by the ACCA Liability Self-Insurance Fund wrapped up its statewide tour in Ozark last week. Altogether, more than 700 employees from 57 counties were trained – roughly half law enforcement and half road and bridge employees. Based on comment cards completed by the participants, most employees had never been trained on a driving simulator and felt this training should be offered to other employees in their counties, especially those driving county vehicles, dump trucks, motor graders, mowers, garbage trucks and other heavy equipment. ACCA especially appreciates the invaluable assistance from counties that hosted the simulator.

    Speaking of safety
ACCA’s deadline for county road and bridge departments to designate a safety coordinator within the department has been extended until Nov. 15. However, counties that have already attended an ACEA division meeting and heard a presentation on this topic can go ahead and let us know. Please send the name, title, phone number and email address of your designee to Marcia Collier.
