  • Last chance to volunteer for legislative Policy Teams
    The deadline to volunteer to help with one of the ACCA Policy Teams has been extended until 5 p.m. today – so take a look at the list of teams and let us know which issue interests you. Maybe it’s Revenue Protection, or Justice & Public Safety or the Public Works Law. Remember, these teams are replacing the subject-matter steering committees, so this is your best opportunity to advance the county position in the legislative process.

    District meeting registration open
    That’s right – it’s time to register for ACCA’s District Meetings, which are set for October this year because of the 2014 election cycle. These meetings are designed to prepare county leaders for the upcoming legislation session, which starts Jan. 14. Here’s a schedule showing the [download id=”1201″], and you can register through the Events link online. Please choose the date and location that are most convenient for you, which just might be the Elmore County meeting is in conjunction with the Disaster Relief 101 class.

    Reserve your rooms for ACCA Legislative Conference
    Room reservations are now open if you are planning to take part in the three big events the first week of December — the ALGTI class on Legislative & Governmental Relations or the AAEM Workshop or ACCA Legislative Conference.  You can reserve a room at the Birmingham Marriott by following this link. Our rate is $112 per night, and the deadline to reserve a room at the conference rate is Nov. 18. A basic schedule is available to help you plan your trip, and more details will be coming soon.

    Disaster Relief 101
    A finalized agenda is now available for the Disaster Relief 101 class coming up Oct. 16 -17. This class is designed for county officials and staff members outside the emergency management office who want to gain a working knowledge of all that is involved when disaster strikes. For this special class, county commissioners and county staff members can earn credits for their education programs.

    Training reimbursement checks
    Checks will go out this week to counties in the ACCA Self-Insurance Funds that qualified for convention registration reimbursement by attending training. Questions? Contact Henry van Arcken.
