  • Have you picked your Policy Team?
There’s always lot of enthusiasm from officials and employees about working on county issues in the Alabama Legislature, and this year ACCA’s process is completely different. In fact, it’s so different that you must volunteer to serve on one of the new Policy Teams instead being appointed. This way you get to choose an issue that matters to you. The deadline to pick your team is Thursday, and you can get all the details about the different Policy Teams here. Questions? Call us at 334-263-7594.

    Business license legislation
The business community advocated for legislation during the 2013 session that would have substantially overhauled the business license system in Alabama. The Association opposed the legislation but has been asked to serve on a committee to seek alternatives that could result in an agreed-upon bill for the 2014 session. Meetings begin on Sept. 24 and counties will be kept informed about activities of this committee.

New website full of safety resources
Members of ACCA’s Self-Insurance Funds now have a new tool to help with safety efforts, courtesy of Meadowbrook Insurance Group, the company that administers the funds. The tool is a website filled with video and other safety resources. The link is www.safetysurance.com. Counties should use the login name ACCA@Meadowbrook.com and password ACCA. (Both are case sensitive.)

    ONE SPOT training
If you are attending the Alabama Department of Revenue’s ONE SPOT training on Wednesday, you are encouraged to RSVP to Curtis Stewart 334-242-1170. (Event details are available at this link.)

    Disaster Relief 101
When disaster strikes, counties respond with “all hands on deck.” That means that all county officials and many county employees need a working knowledge of emergency management basics. Disaster Relief 101 is a special course being offered for both county commissioners and county employees to orient those outside the EMA office. Credit will be given through both the County Government Education Institute and the Alabama Local Government Training Institute. Interested? Register online using the link above.
