Hot 5: Why cyber liability?

  • Published: December 8, 2014
  • 1. Why cyber liability insurance?

This recent example from Tennessee, shows why cyber liability is a new part of the ACCA insurance offerings beginning Jan. 1. The Dickson County Sheriff’s Office was hit with “ransomware,” software that infects a computer network and holds the data hostage for money. Because the county lacked an adequate backup for these 70,000 files, it had to pay $500 ransom to a hacker to regain access to the county’s own data. Read this NACo article for more this issue, and contact ACCA’s Henry van Arcken (334-263-7594 or to learn more about the new cyber liability coverage for fund members.

    2. Thank you for your service!

Bill Dempsey, county administrator in Houston County, was recognized last week by ACCA for his dedicated service to the ACCA Liability Self-Insurance Fund Inc. One of the most special things about the ACCA Self-Insurance Funds is that county leaders are the decision makers, and Bill has been an invaluable member of the fund’s governing board for six years.
