NACo Leadership Opportunities: ACCA Hot 5

  • 1. Want to Serve on a NACo Steering Committee?

County leaders in Alabama have a long track record of influencing NACo activity on issues important to our state’s 67 counties as well as counties across the U.S. If you would like to be part of continuing that tradition, this NACo Steering Committee Nomination Form must be completed and returned to ACCA no later than June 30. The form lists the 10 steering committees. Appointments will be announced in the fall. Questions? Contact Marcia Collier (mcollier@alabamacounties.org or 334-236-7594).

    2. Welcoming Jackson Britton

ACCA is pleased to welcome a college intern for the summer. Jackson Britton is a senior at the University of Alabama, and he has already been a big help during these final weeks of the legislative session. Watch for the comprehensive report on local legislation he has worked on to be coming out soon.

    3. Financial Statements Training

Space is limited so please email Donna Key (dkey@alabamacounties.org) today if your county administrator or other staff members are interested. The free hands-on training from the Examiners of Public Accounts will introduce you to understanding and preparing required financial statements, and it is reserved exclusively for county employees. Sessions are scheduled for June 23-24 and June 30-July 1 in Montgomery, so you can choose the date that works best for your schedule. Sign up today!

    4. ACCA Elections Coming Up Soon

Terms of office for ACCA’s current officers, board and legislative committee will end in August, so it is time to make preparations for the first election process using the new procedures established by the membership. You can find the written election procedures, forms and an up-to-date list of candidates online. The first deadline on the horizon is July 6, which is the last day to submit forms to run for ACCA Vice President or Minority Director.
