  • 1. Workers’ Comp Information Sheets Due Oct. 31

Members of the ACCA Workers’ Compensation Self-Insurers’ Fund need to return their completed 2015-2016 Information Sheet by October 31.  This sheet, which is very important to the WC Fund, was included in the WC Renewal Packets mailed in September.  If you have misplaced your copy, please click on Information Sheet and print, complete and return the form to mcollier@alabamacounties.org or 334-263-7678 (fax).

    2. Time Running Out to Register for Next Alabama Jail Training Academy Class

The last Alabama Jail Training Academy class of 2015 is coming up quickly. Officer Responsibilities & Offender Supervision will be offered Nov. 18-19, and regular registration will be open through Wednesday of next week. It’s a terrific class that covers ethics and proper conduct for correctional officers, as well as providing insight into inmate behavior so officers will be better equipped to manage the jail population. As always, the AJTA instructors are seasoned county corrections leaders from Alabama.

    3. New Comparative Data Surveys Coming Soon

ACCA is working on a new edition of Comparative Data on Alabama Counties, which is such an important reference for all 67 counties. Surveys will be distributed in the coming weeks to county administrators, and you are encouraged to complete and return them as soon as possible. This unique resource is much more useful to counties of all sizes when information about every county is included, and anyone with questions about the project can contact Chase Cobb (ccobb@alabamacounties.org or 334-263-7594) in the ACCA office.

    4. DRIVE Alabama

Over a dozen counties have completed the media-roll out of their ATRIP templates, and the media is taking note! If we continue working together, we can DRIVE Alabama towards a better vision for the state’s road and bridge program. Here are a few links to a few of the positive news stories about ATRIP and DRIVE Alabama from counties across the state:

    • Group advocating more money for roads includes Morgan County officials | Decatur Daily
    • Houston, Henry counties praise funding program’s impact on roads | Dothan Eagle
    • New bridges coming to county roads | The Moulton Advertiser
    • Roadwork continues in Russellville | TimesDaily

If you are a Phase One county, and need assistance completing your media-roll out, please contact Terri Reynolds at 334-263-9574 or by email at treynolds@alabamacounties.org. Phase Two counties will receive their media packets by email TODAY.

In the meantime, you can follow the DRIVE campaign efforts on social media via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. DON’T FORGET: please email any pictures of roads in your county that are still in need of repairs or upgrades — remember, we need to show the good, bad, and the ugly of road and bridge infrastructure in Alabama.

    5. Strong Line-up of Presenters for ACCA Legislative Conference

The ACCA Legislative Conference, set for Dec. 2-3, will provide incredibly valuable and actionable information for county officials and employees alike. The program will begin with a focus on transportation funding from the first speaker, Sen. Gerald Dial. The opening general session also includes a preview of the 2016 Regular Session from Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh, followed by Othni Lathram from the Alabama Law Institute to provide timely campaign finance guidance. Other speakers who are confirmed include Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Secretary Spencer Collier and Alabama Emergency Management Agency Director Art Faulkner. There are just a couple weeks left to reserve a room at the conference hotel, The Hotel at Auburn University, and registration is open now. Agenda, Registration & Hotel Info
