    1. Webinar: Home Stretch of Regular Session

    Though the time is growing short, this session of the Alabama Legislature is doing anything but winding down. Commissioners are fighting unfunded mandates and attempts to divert dollars that counties depend on for vital services. Please pre-register for the 10:30 a.m. webinar on May 18.     2. Safety Coordinator Training For 2014-2015 SIDP Scheduled

    The required County Safety Coordinator Training for the 2014-2015 Safety Incentive Discount Program (SIDP), “Practical Tools for Effective Safety Leadership,” has been scheduled for afternoons at 4 regional locations. Choose the one most convenient to you – Decatur on July 8, Opelika on Aug. 12, Bay Minette on Aug. 26 or Prattville on Sept. 2.     3. Joint Bidding to Gear Up

    For more than a decade the Association’s joint bidding program has saved counties both money and administrative headaches by allowing for statewide bidding of products and services essential to daily operations.  The Association’s contracts on pre-event debris and monitoring services, which have garnered national attention, must be rebid this summer.  Anyone interested in serving on the advisory committee for these contracts or the many heavy equipment contracts that must also be rebid this year are encouraged to contact Chase Cobb (334-263-7594 or


    4. Grand Finale of County Days 2015

    The 6th County Day of this regular session is coming up May 19. County officials and employees have turned out in force throughout the session, making the critical face-to-face contacts with legislators that make a difference on important votes. All 67 counties are counting on the following to help finish strong: Barbour, Chambers, Choctaw, Clarke, Coosa, Dale, Dallas, DeKalb, Lamar, Lawrence, Madison, Montgomery and Shelby counties.     5. If I Were President of the ACCA _____________

    ACCA asked county officials and employees just that in a recent anonymous survey as part of the strategic planning process. Here’s one response that really stood out, though many others expressed the same sentiment. If I were president of the ACCA I would “try to continue to maintain a positive profile and productive position for counties. Stick together and stay strong to defend county government.” Sounds like 67 Counties, ONE Voice, doesn’t it?
