    1. Fuel Up by Friday to Save

    Hundreds of Alabama county officials and employees will be together in just a month to “Fuel Up for a New Day” and equip their counties for what’s new and what’s next. This Friday is the last day to register for the Annual Convention at the regular rate of $200. The registration fee increases to $225 on Saturday, July 25. Register online


    2. Wanted: 24 Effective Leaders

    The One Voice of county government depends on commissioners who know that the best way to strengthen and protect their counties is for them to engage at the state and federal levels through ACCA. Each year, counties elect 24 leaders to serve on the ACCA Board of Directors and Legislative Committee. A number of candidates have already registered, and there are just a few weeks left for others to step forward. If you are interested in serving, please see these election forms and the candidate list.


    3. Rates & Possible Insurance Refunds

    To help counties prepare budgets for the 2015-16 fiscal year, the governing boards of the ACCA Self-Insurance Funds are about to consider rates for the upcoming year as well as whether refunds will be available to members. Trustees for the workers’ compensation fund will meet next week, followed by the liability fund a week later. Rates and any refunds will be announced at the self-insurance fund membership meeting at the ACCA Convention in August.


    4. Ludgood Elected to NACo Executive Committee

    Congratulations to ACCA President and Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood, who was recently elected to a full two-year term on the NACo Executive Committee. In the few months of the partial term she just completed, Ludgood advanced communication among counties throughout the 12-state region through conference calls and social media.     5. Public Officials/Administrative Staff SIDP Training Scheduled 

    Counties participating in the ACCA insurance funds’ Safety Incentive Discount Program (SIDP) may begin registering for the required Public Officials/Administrative Staff Training. The first class will be held on August 12 @ 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. in Opelika at the Lee County Meeting Center. Then Bay Minette, August 13 @ 1-3:30 p.m.; Prattville, September 16 @ 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m.; and Decatur, September 17 @ 1-3:30 p.m. All class dates, times and locations have been confirmed, so you can use this registration form to get your supervisors with hiring, terminating and disciplinary responsibilities of employees registered.  Seating will be limited, so don’t delay.  For more information regarding SIDP training contact Marcia Collier at 334-263-7594 or mcollier@alabamacounties.org.
