    + Key Dates This Week

    1. “Hot 5” to become “Monday Memo”

Exciting changes are coming to the Hot 5! Effective Oct. 7, the “Hot 5” will become the “Monday Memo” — and county leaders will receive a more thorough yet concise weekly dose of county government news through a redesigned format that will feature remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield; need-to-know Association announcements; news stories about the County Family; and key ACCA dates. In addition, once a month, the “Monday Memo” will include a collection of photos showcasing County Family service and betterment. Like the “Hot 5,” the “Monday Memo” will arrive in county inboxes every Monday at 8 a.m.

    2. Counties’ Rebuild Alabama efforts receive positive press

Last week was a milestone week for county government and our promise for transparency with and accountability of every Rebuild Alabama dollar. Counties are voluntarily having their 2020 road and bridge construction plans posted to the ACCA website for public inspection, and when the Association notified the media of this, the news was immediately picked up statewide. For that, we want to commend the county engineers and commissioners who have worked and will continue to work everyday to prove to the Legislature and the general public that the enactment of the Rebuild Alabama Act was, indeed, a necessary and worthwhile investment. Check out what a few media outlets had to say about counties’ latest Rebuild Alabama effort:

    3. 28th Annual County Golf Bash to tee off this week

This Wednesday will mark the 28th annual gathering for the County Golf Bash! Held at the Timberline Golf Club in Calera, the event allows for county leaders to network with county vendors and for vendors to show their support for county government — all while enjoying a day on the links. The date for next year’s Golf Bash has already been set, so county leaders are encouraged to mark their calendars for September 16, 2020, and to encourage their vendors to do the same.

    4. Have your county job opening listed on ACCA’s website

Does your county need help spreading the word about its job openings? The ACCA maintains an online listing of county job openings, and we want to share the news about any you may have available. To have your job opening listed online, submit any relevant job details and/or documents to Abby Fitzpatrick, Director of Communication and Engagement. To check out our online listing, click here.

    5. Wednesday is deadline to register for AJTA Mental Health class

This Wednesday, Oct. 2, is the deadline to register for the upcoming Alabama Jail Training Academy (AJTA) Mental Health for Jail Administrators course. The course will take place October 16-17 at the Marriott Prattville Hotel and Conference Center and will feature lessons on booking and screening for withdrawal, medical-assisted treatment, de-escalation and much more.
