Legal representatives for Alabama’s counties won’t want to miss this CLE opportunity. “Legal Issues Facing City & County Government” is a two-day seminar scheduled for May 3-4 at the Perdido Beach Resort.

    Preparing for Disasters
That’s the theme for the 2013 AAEM Summer Conference, scheduled for June 11-13 at Lake Guntersville State Park. Registration is now open, and you can find all the details online.

    New safety training
The Alabama Department of Homeland Security has started a new campaign to teach what to do when an active shooter is present. The protocol, “Run, Hide, Fight,” is already on billboards around the state, and ACCA will advise counties when the related training becomes available.

    Insurance fund checks
Over the last six weeks, ACCA’s insurance funds have paid out $1.6 million in investment dividends and bonuses. The biggest chunk – some $1.2 million – was investment dividends, but counties earned just over $400,000 in bonuses through the Safety Incentive Discount Program. Want to cash in next year? National leadership
Mobile County Commission President Merceria Ludgood, who is also ACCA’s second vice president, has been selected for the County Leadership Institute, a joint effort of NACo and New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
