    Talladega County Joins Fund

After becoming part of the ACCA Workers’ Compensation Fund in October, the Talladega County Commission will join the Association’s Liability Self-Insurance Fund Inc. on April 1. The latest addition means 57 Alabama counties are full participants in the liability program. Established in 1986, the fund has now grown to $10 million in annual premium for a total of 68 covered entities. Last week the fund distributed safety and investment checks to its members totaling almost $1.2 million. Want to be part of the success? ‘Ins & Outs’ of Inmate Management

The next course from the Alabama Jail Training Academy, scheduled for April 15-16, focuses on all the details of inmate management – booking, intake, classification, controlling contraband, cell checks and more. And each session is taught by a veteran county jail officer from Alabama, using a curriculum aligned with the Alabama Legal-Based Guidelines. Limited reimbursement is available for counties that are members of ACCA’s insurance funds. Register and learn more online.

    Local Focus

Want to know what local bills have been introduced for your county? Or maybe check the progress of a piece of local legislation? Go to ACCA’s Legislative Tracking System, open the ALISON login in a separate window or tab, and then look back at the ACCA site for the “GROUPS” menu on the right. Select “Local Bills” and then choose your county from the list that will appear below.

How Will Your County Support the Spring Cleanup?

Last year many counties participated in Alabama PALS Spring Cleanup. Many county engineers volunteered to pick up boxes of garbage bags in Montgomery and distribute them to participants throughout their county. As a result of your efforts, over 350 tons of litter were removed from Alabama’s roadways. It’s that time of year again, and we’re calling for you to assist with this year’s efforts. Garbage bags will be available for pickup from March 12 to March 26. If you are able to assist with this year’s cleanup, please contact Terri Sharpley Reynolds at for additional information.
