Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield
Remember the words of Robert Burns reminding us our best-laid plans often go awry? Such is the case with the plan to provide reimbursements for lost pistol permit revenue. That has been the “issue of the year” so far. With everyone speaking with our productive “ONE Voice,” perhaps we can close the book on that issue real soon.
This week’s need-to-know information from ACCA
ACAA Regional Meetings kick off tomorrow, February 21
County Administrators and administrative staff from all 67 counties will kick off Regional Meetings this week. Meetings will occur in the following locations throughout the week:
County Administrators in each meeting will have an excellent opportunity to gather with colleagues and discuss pertinent issues that counties face. Meetings will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude with lunch at a restaurant of the host county’s choosing. County Administrators who cannot attend this week’s meetings are encouraged to register for a meeting in March. A full list of meetings and registration links can be found here. Please contact ACCA Public Relations Manager Marty Stokes with any questions.
Members of ACCA’s Passion, Leadership, Accountability, Networking (PLAN) leadership program will meet on Wednesday, February 22, at ACCA Headquarters to officially kick off the PLAN 2024 leadership experience. We look forward to welcoming the program’s newest members for what is sure to be an exciting 20-month program!
County leaders are encouraged to register today for the County Government Education Institute’s (CGEI) General Accounting course. The course, scheduled for March 15-16 at the Marriott Prattville Hotel and Conference Center, provides a basic introduction to governmental accounting and serves as a valuable elective for those seeking to complete Administrator, Engineer and 911 CGEI certifications.
Additionally, County Revenue Officers and License Inspectors are encouraged to register today for the CGEI CROAA: Legal Considerations of Local Revenue course. This course provides information on research techniques, various collection methods and procedures to follow when a taxpayer files for bankruptcy. The course also provides information on the administrative appeals process at the county level and the process required should a case be appealed to the Alabama Tax Tribunal.
ACCA offices are closed today, February 20, in observance of Presidents’ Day. The Association offices will reopen tomorrow, February 21, at 8:30 a.m.
