Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield

Our district meetings are in full swing! The roadshow is in Tuscaloosa tonight — and on Wednesday, we’re in Prattville. We started these meetings back in 1991, and they always signaled the official start of the Legislative session. Please do all you can to attend one of these meetings, and bring your cell phone! You’ll need it.

    ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCEMENTS

This week’s need-to-know information from ACCA

District Meetings continue across Central Alabama

County Family members across Central Alabama will gather twice this week for ACCA’s third and fourth District Meeting of 2023. Members from West Alabama will gather first at the Tuscaloosa River Market today, January 30. Then, members from Central and East Alabama will gather at the Marriott Prattville Hotel & Conference Center on Wednesday, February 1. Each meeting will begin with dinner and fellowship at 6 p.m. If you still need to register for an upcoming 2023 District Meeting, please do so today by clicking on the date that best fits your schedule and join your fellow County Family members and ACCA staff as we discuss legislative goals and other pressing issues.

Thank you to all the County Family members who joined us last week in North Alabama for ACCA’s first two District Meetings of the year. We continue to appreciate each County’s dedication to speaking with one voice and look forward to another successful legislative session.

County Leaders to travel to Prattville this week for CGEI course

County Leaders will travel to Prattville this week for the County Government Education Institute’s (CGEI) Overview of County Government class — a required course for all CGEI certifications and a dual course for the Alabama Local Government Training Institute (ALGTI). The class, scheduled to take place at the Marriott Prattville Hotel & Conference Center, will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, and conclude at 3:00 p.m. the following day.

The course will introduce participants to a general overview of the workings of county government, including topics such as the role of the county commission, the functions of county commission offices and departments, interplay with other county offices and the many constitutional and statutory provisions that dictate how county government works. A class agenda is available here.

County Family members reminded to watch for fraudulent emails

ACCA reminds all County Family members to remain watchful for fraudulent email messages, especially those posing as the Association and asking for county information or monetary support. Last week, a sender with malicious intentions sent an email using ACCA’s logo to members of the County Family soliciting cash donations. The Association will never send emails asking for monetary support via gift cards or GoFundMe contributions. All Association transactions are completed through our secure registration software.

We appreciate each member that brought the fraudulent email to our attention. Please never hesitate to contact the ACCA office at staff@alabamacounties.org or (334) 263-7594 if you receive a fraudulent email posing as ACCA or have questions about an email sent from ACCA.
