Monday Memo | July 19

Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield

Many years ago, an incoming ACCA President said Alabama would never be any stronger than “its weakest county.” Those words have guided our efforts over the past two decades and have never been more true than this morning. Beginning today, it is time to push ourselves toward something better for all counties, for this state and for all who depend on us. Let’s stop marking time and watching the calendar. This Monday, let’s get focused on accomplishing something meaningful.

This week’s need-to-know information from ACCA

ACCA Convention to open with leadership workshop from Dr. Kevin Elko

Are you registered to attend the ACCA Annual Convention on August 23-26? If ‘yes,’ be sure to mark your calendar for an exciting Opening General Session (August 24), to be headlined by the ever-popular Dr. Kevin Elko. After a virtual presentation to Alabama counties in 2020, Elko will join us in person next month to provide Convention-goers with a half-day training workshop on insight, motivation and leadership. Elko’s expertise has been trusted over the years by the Alabama Crimson Tide, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints and countless Fortune 500 corporations. And across the globe, he has been recognized for his ability to give teams and organizations a new perspective and the motivation to face the challenges thrown their way. Series of 9-1-1 educational gatherings to kick off this week

The next two weeks will present an exciting number of opportunities for Alabama 9-1-1 leaders to learn from and connect with their peers across the state and the nation. This Wednesday, the Annual Alabama 9-1-1 Summit will get underway at the Marriott Prattville Hotel and Conference Center and offer three days of back-to-back meetings facilitated by the Alabama 9-1-1 Board, the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) Alabama Chapter, and ACCA’S 9-1-1 affiliate organization — the Alabama Association of 9-1-1 Districts. Upon conclusion of the Alabama Summit, the Annual Conference of the national 9-1-1 organization, NENA, will kick off Saturday in Columbus, Ohio, and run through the following Thursday, July 29.
