Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield

The dog days of summer are officially here, which means “budget” season cannot be far behind. It’s that wonderful time when commissions must balance everyone’s grand wish list against the financial realities of the county. With skyrocketing inflation — and fuel prices — this summer promises to be hotter and more uncomfortable than normal. Stay cool this week!

This week’s need-to-know information from ACCA

Alabama Disaster Preparedness Annual Conference begins Tuesday, June 14

Emergency Managers will travel to Tuscaloosa for the Alabama Disaster Preparedness Annual Conference, beginning tomorrow, June 14.

Attendees will receive key updates and have the opportunity to network and share ideas with vendors and fellow emergency management personnel from across the state. Please contact ACCA’s Events and Education Team for any last-minute Conference assistance.

County Administrators’ webinar set for Wednesday, June 15 at 10:30 a.m.

County Administrators will resume their monthly webinars this Wednesday, June 15, at 10:30 a.m. This month, ACCA General Counsel, Meg Fiedler, will provide details on Alabama’s Open Meetings Law as it relates to executive sessions before discussing reimbursement election costs.

Administrators can register for this week’s webinar here.

NENA Annual Conference continues this week

The 2022 Conference and Expo of the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) began Saturday, June 11 in Louisville, Kentucky, and will continue through Thursday, June 16.

Throughout the week, 9-1-1 professionals will discuss public-safety issues, gain appropriate tools from keynote speakers and network with fellow 9-1-1 Leaders from across the country in courses and breakout sessions. A brochure with additional Conference information can be viewed here.

Hotel accommodations remain available for ACCA 94th Convention

Hotel rooms are sold out at the Perdido Beach Resort — this year’s Convention location, but County Family members may still make reservations at a variety of hotels in Orange Beach for ACCA’s 94th Convention August 23-25. Rooms remain available for a discounted rate at the Holiday Inn Express and Fairfield Inn & Suites for the nights of August 21-25 and at the Hotel Indigo for the nights of August 23-25.

If you have not registered for the Convention yet, you may click here. Please contact the ACCA Events and Education Team with any questions.

ACCA Board nominations process remains open

Have you considered serving on the Association’s Board of Directors? ACCA is calling on hard-working, dedicated County Commissioners to submit their nomination to serve on the ACCA 2022-2023 Board of Directors.

The Board includes representatives from each of the Association’s 12 districts. Please note that the ACCA districts were adjusted this past year to reflect 2020 Census data. County Leaders can access a Board nomination form, including an updated map of ACCA’s district lines and additional  information on the position’s requirements here. Nomination forms should be completed and emailed by August 11 to Lisa Fiore, ACCA Policy and Member Services Assistant.
