Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield
In tomorrow’s runoff election, Alabamians will decide a party nominee in about a dozen county commission seats. When the dust settles, as many as 44 new Commissioners will be sworn in later this year. The official orientation class for those new individuals is set for December 6 and 7, but the preparation for a smooth transition should begin this week — both at the county level and Association headquarters.
This week’s need-to-know information from ACCA
Less than a month remains in the election to fill the new Active County Employee position on the Employees’ Retirement System (ERS) Board of Control — and Ricky Harcrow, who serves as the DeKalb County Commission President, needs your vote!
This past week, ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield sat down with President Harcrow to discuss his 24 years of service in county government and his plans for protecting the retirement benefits of all ERS members, should he be elected to the Board. To listen to the discussion recording, click here. Members of the County Family are reminded to cast their ballots for President Harcrow before the July 15 deadline — and to urge their colleagues to do the same.
Registered Commissioners will travel on Thursday, June 23, for the opening day of the Alabama Local Government Training Institute’s (ALGTI) class at the Marriot Prattville Hotel & Conference Center.
Class participants will spend Thursday and Friday discussing potential risks while being equipped with the tools necessary to mitigate risks associated with the threat of litigation. Attendees will also learn proper management policies, training practices and implementation strategies for workplace safety.
Commissioners who wish to participate may continue to register for the class here. A finalized agenda is also available for attendees here. Please contact Auburn University’s Government & Economic Development Institute with any questions.
