Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield
As COVID-19 cases spike again, I can’t help but think about where we were two years ago — and the difficult journey county government has traveled since. Sometime this week, take the time to thank those who walked alongside you over the past 24 months. It truly took all of us!
This week’s need-to-know information from ACCA
Are you still waiting for your Employees’ Retirement System (ERS) Board of Control election ballot from the Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA)? If you believe you’ve misplaced or not yet received your ballot, you may request a new ballot by emailing communication.correspondences@rsa-al.gov or calling (334) 517-7190.
Those who request a new ballot should be prepared to provide their name and mailing address, in addition to a phone number or email address, for verification purposes.
County Family members are reminded to vote for DeKalb County Commission President Ricky Harcrow to fill the Active County Employees Position before the July 15 deadline — and to urge their colleagues to do the same. Members may also listen to this recording to hear President Harcrow discuss his 24 years of service in county government and his plans for protecting the retirement benefits of all ERS members.
County leaders are encouraged to attend three separate webinars about broadband assistance this coming Thursday. The first webinar is scheduled to begin at noon, with the final set to wrap up at 2:45 p.m.
The webinars, hosted by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) as part of the Alabama Community Broadband Technical Assistance Program, will provide insight on the fundamentals of broadband infrastructure, the upcoming Technical Assistance Application and the federal broadband funding landscape.
For more information on each webinar, including registration links, click here. Please contact ADECA’s Digital Expansion Division Chief, Maureen Neighbors, with any questions.
The 2022 Annual Conference and Exposition of the National Association of Counties (NACo) is less than a month away, and County Family members who have yet to register are encouraged to do so today.
The July 21-24 Conference will occur at the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center in Denver, Colorado. County Family members will have the opportunity to engage in educational sessions on national topics, connect with federal officials and county leaders from across the country, and elect new association leadership to help shape NACO’s federal policy agenda for the coming year.
County Family members can register for the NACo 2022 Annual Conference and access complete event details here.
