Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield
Our “Cakes and Conversations” event this past Wednesday was a fabulous way to kick off the 2023 legislative session. Now, after a great afternoon of fellowship, it’s time to get serious. Watch your inbox for updates and help us speak with ONE Voice — after we finish the leftover cake!
This week’s need-to-know information from ACCA
County Family members are encouraged to continue registering for an ACCA County Advocacy Day by navigating to the “2023 Legislative Session” tab on the County Family online community. Throughout the 2023 Legislative Session, the Association will host County Advocacy Days on the dates listed below:
County leaders are urged to select at least one day to visit Montgomery and “walk the halls” of the Alabama Legislature to ensure their legislators are consistently aware of — and supporting — the interests of county government when considering legislation.
All County Advocacy Days will take place on a Tuesday this year. Each event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch and a legislative briefing at ACCA Headquarters and will be followed by lobbying at the Alabama Statehouse at 1 p.m. Please contact ACCA’s Events and Education Team with questions.
County leaders from across the state will travel to Prattville on Wednesday for the County Government Education Institute’s (CGEI) classes on General Accounting and Legal Considerations of Local Revenue.
A majority of county leaders traveling to Prattville will attend the CGEI: General Accounting class to receive a basic introduction to government accounting and learn a variety of related accounting skill sets. County Revenue Officers will be in Prattville for the CGEI CROAA: Legal Considerations of Local Revenue class to learn more about various research techniques, collection methods and procedures to follow when a taxpayer files for bankruptcy. Please contact ACCA’s Events and Education Team with questions before this week’s scheduled classes.
County Administrators will meet Friday, March 17, in Fayette County for the last of the Association’s 2023 series of statewide Regional Meetings. The meetings are held each spring and provide time for County Administrators to come together in meeting places across the state to discuss common issues counties face. Friday’s meeting will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude with lunch at a restaurant of the host county’s choosing. County Administrators may still register for this event by navigating to the “Events/Education” tab on the County Family online community. A short video tutorial detailing how to access your group’s “Events/Education” tab is available here. Please contact ACCA Public Relations Manager Marty Stokes with any questions.
