Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield

This Monday morning finds us in Washington, D.C., at the annual Legislative Conference of the National Association of Counties. Alabama continues to provide leadership on so many issues at the national level — and we are incredibly grateful to those officials and employees who invest their time, energy and influence to help us shape public policy for both state and federal government. There’s always room for others to join our efforts. Please let us know if you are ever interested.

This week’s need-to-know information from ACCA

First Goat Hill Webinar of 2020 Session to take place this Thursday

Attention, All County Leaders! The very first ACCA Goat Hill Webinar of the 2020 Legislative Session will take place this Thursday, March 5, at 10:30 a.m. A number of legislative issues have arisen and much progress has been made since the beginning of February, and this webinar will be your opportunity to receive the latest information on the session and the bills impacting counties. The webinar will also be a prime opportunity for you to ask any legislative questions you may have, so be sure to register for the Goat Hill Webinar here to join us on the morning of March 5. You may view a draft agenda for the webinar here.

Keep up with county government legislation through “bill tracking” section of ACCA website

Every year, state lawmakers introduce hundreds and hundreds of bills — most of which impact county government in some shape or form. And while the ACCA staff works to only alert you to the most pressing issues needing your immediate action, there are still many bills worth reading and discussing with your legislators. To access and keep track of the bills impacting county government, as well as those impacting specific sectors of county government, click here for the Association’s online bill tracking page.

SIDP educational requirement for Road, Bridge Safety Directors coming up this Thursday

Are you a Road and Bridge Safety Director? Does your county participate in the ACCA Insurance Funds’ Safety Incentive Discount Program (SIDP)? If you answered ‘yes’ to both of these questions, be sure to pre-register for and attend the 2020 Central Alabama Construction Safety Conference this Thursday, March 5, at the Hyundai Training Center in Hope Hull. The free, one-day conference offers six tracks of training, and participants can attend any course in any available track — but interested individuals must pre-register by March 3. For SIDP-related questions, contact Marcia Collier, CRS Member Services Coordinator.
