Last week I had a great visit in Carrollton with the Pickens County Commission and staff. I never fail to be impressed by the level of leadership and commitment inside Alabama’s county commission offices. This dedication to service is why our communities looks to their commissions for solutions and answers.

The ACCA Board of Directors met on Nov. 8 in Montgomery to receive updates about ACCA programs, an overview of the upcoming Legislative Conference, and to approve changes to the County Platform that were recommended by the Legislative Committee, which met last month. The County Platform will be presented to the full ACCA membership for a vote at the Legislative Conference on Nov. 29-30. Program Director Kelley Gillikin shared an update on the Investing in Alabama Counties program, now 43 counties strong, as the Dec. 31, 2024, deadline for ARPA fund obligation approaches. Ernie Baggett, Director of External Programs, provided information on the planning contract for the counties involved in the disaster relief block grant.
