Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield
We’ll turn it up a notch this week with a two-day workshop for our ACCA Legislative Committee. For the Association staff, this workshop is one of the real highlights of the year. If our public policy success is to continue, our membership must continue to be engaged and committed. We’re grateful for those who will invest two days to ensure we speak with a unified — and productive — voice for all 67 counties.
This week’s need-to-know information from ACCA
Members of the ACCA Legislative Committee will travel to the capital city this week for an intense, two-day Pre-Session Workshop and critical step in the Association’s legislative development process. While in Montgomery, Committee members will undergo in-depth discussions on the most pressing issues expected to impact counties during the 2023 Legislative Session; review and consider the policy suggestions provided by the ACCA affiliate legislative committees and the Minority Issues Steering Committee; and make recommendations on how to proceed with county legislation and dangerous legislation in 2023.
Counties that have passed a resolution promoting Amendments 2 and 7 on the November ballot are reminded to share their adopted resolution with local media outlets and chambers of commerce in the days leading up to the General Election. And of course, all County Family members are also reminded to vote YES on Amendments 2 and 7 on Election Day. The ACCA staff thanks those counties across the state that have adopted or plan to adopt the Association’s sample resolution promoting these two important amendments for county government.
Attention, ACCA Workers’ Compensation Self-Insurers Fund (WCSIF) Participants! Next Monday, Oct. 31, is the final day to mail in your county’s 2022-2023 premium-contribution and avoid any additional assessments. Premium-contributions should be made payable to ACCA WCSIF and mailed to CRS Inc. at P.O. Box 589, Montgomery, AL 36101-0589. For questions or assistance, please contact CRS Underwriting Analyst Ashley Watson.
