Monday Memo | October 4

Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield

I realize it’s easy to be overwhelmed with the demands at the local level – after all, our worlds have changed considerably in the past two years. But today and tomorrow, we will continue our annual process of seeking input from the entire County Family ahead of the coming year’s legislative session. We as a family cannot continue to be successful without active and committed membership involvement – and that comes at a price. So, thank you to everyone who is making the extra effort to contribute to our success.

Administrators’ Legislative Committee, Minority Issues Steering Committee to discuss 2022 legislation this week

Meetings of the County Administrators’ Legislative Committee and the ACCA Minority Issues Steering Committee will be held in person at the ACCA headquarters this week to wrap up the Association’s annual issue-specific strategy discussions, which always produce an array of policy considerations for the ACCA Legislative Committee. Together, members of these two groups will take a look at legislative issues and solutions relevant to their role in county government, as well as make recommendations for members’ increased legislative engagement and action in 2022. A recap of the items discussed and recommended by the Association’s five affiliate legislative committees and the Minority Issues Steering Committee will be shared in the days ahead.

ACCA District Meetings to take place in October, November

Designed for all county officials and employees to come together to discuss legislative priorities and other important County Family matters, this year’s District “Reset” Meetings will be conducted in every area of the state between Oct. 18 and Nov. 10.
