Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield
This week, we’ll honor two more legislators for their sponsorship of Association priority bills during the 2023 sessions. It’s hard to believe, but it’s actually time to turn our attention toward the 2024 Legislative Session. Our emphasis on preparation and involvement by the membership has served us well over the years. Study up because it’s time to get to work!
This week’s need-to-know information from ACCA
Registration is now open for ACCA’s Legislative Conference, set to take place Nov. 29-30 at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. As always, accommodations at the hotel are available at a discounted rate for members of the County Family. To register for the Conference and to reserve a hotel room, simply refer to the “Events/Education” tab of the ACCA County Family online community. Remember that rooms typically book quickly. You don’t want to miss being on-site to hear from policy leaders across the state, discuss anticipated legislative issues in the year ahead and address other important business.
This Wednesday and Thursday, members of the Passion, Leadership, Accountability and Networking (PLAN) 2024 program will gather together to further develop their practical and service-oriented leadership skills. Additionally, members will have the opportunity to dive deeper into their collective Passion Project to improve access to and resources for mental health statewide. PLAN 2024 participants continue to build meaningful relationships with other county and state officials across Alabama and are poised to become change-makers in their communities and statewide.
Members of county government are invited to participate in ACCA’s Golf Bash on Sept. 20 at the Timberline Golf Club in Calera. The Golf Bash provides county leaders and vendors with an opportunity to gather together for an enjoyable afternoon of networking on the links. More information can be found under the “Events/Education” tab of the ACCA County Family online community. If you are not currently assigned to play on a golf team and wish to participate, please contact Marty Stokes, ACCA Public Relations Manager.
Affiliate webinars were paused in August as County Family members gathered at the 95th ACCA Convention, but those webinars will return this month. County Engineers and associated staff are pre-registered for the live ACEA webinar taking place on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. Check your email for the meeting link, and be sure to tune in for updates about state stormwater grant applications, the Alabama County Joint Bid program and a report from NACE.
