Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield

Tomorrow is Election Day – polls close at 4:00 p.m. I encourage every member of the County Family to vote for former Madison County Commission Chair Mike Gillespie election to a new seat on the Retirement System of Alabama Board of Control.  If you haven’t voted, or were unaware of this VERY IMPORTANT election, please call 866-247-6979 for details on how you can ensure that counties have ONE Voice on the RSA Board.

This week’s need-to-know information from ACCA

Legislative meetings this week to focus on county 9-1-1, revenue, emergency management, engineering issues

Members of the legislative committees for County 9-1-1 Directors, Revenue Officers, Emergency Managers and Engineers will participate in meetings conducted in-person this week to kick off preparations for what is anticipated to be a less-restrictive 2022 legislative session. Together, members will discuss legislative issues and solutions relevant to their role in county government, as well as establish plans for members’ increased legislative engagement and action — which will be essential in 2022 to successfully advocate for and defend county needs. A recap of the items discussed and the decisions made by each legislative committee will be shared in the days ahead.

In-person 2021 CGEI course schedule continues this week

The County Government Education Institute (CGEI) will complete its 2021 education schedule this week with an in-person offering in Prattville. This week’s CGEI class will focus on the ethics of county officials and employees while the CGEI class for our CROAA members will be centered on legal considerations of local revenue. We will begin offering CGEI classes again in January 2022. To learn more about these upcoming classes click here.

2022 Rebuild Alabama implementation kicks off with counties’ continued commitment to transparency, accountability

Year two of Rebuild Alabama implementation is officially (and successfully) behind us! And through dedicated work and effective communication on all fronts, counties have continued to keep their promise to prioritize transparency and accountability in the use of every Rebuild Alabama dollar. The 2022 Rebuild Alabama cycle is already underway, and we want to commend our county governments — and their engineers and commissioners — for once again this year allowing their annual road and bridge construction plans to be posted on the ACCA website for public inspection. County transportation plans for 2022 can be viewed here.
