Remarks from ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield
These are the busiest of times for our county administrative staffs. With the end of the budget year just around the corner, the pressures of work life are immense. But it is always gratifying to see counties solve budget woes with cooperation and compromise — and with the insight of their administrative leaders. Break a leg!
This week’s need-to-know information from ACCA
Board of Directors Representatives for the Association’s 12 established districts were voted upon and approved at ACCA’s recent 95th Annual Convention, and over the coming year, county officials and employees can expect to see both new and familiar faces leading us through our County Odyssey together. Please join us in thanking the following leaders for their service on the ACCA 2023-2024 Board of Directors:
September marks the annual start of the Association’s legislative development process in which the policy goals, stances and advocacy efforts of all Alabama counties are established for the coming year. And each county is represented in this process through the 67-member ACCA Legislative Committee. County Family members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the 2023-2024 Legislative Committee and to express gratitude to these leaders for the critical role they will play in the advancement and protection of Alabama county government in the year to come. The legislative committee for County Emergency Managers will gather in Montgomery this Friday, Sept. 8, to officially kick off preparations for the 2024 Regular Legislative Session. These county leaders will discuss legislative issues and solutions relevant to their role in county government, as well as establish plans for continued legislative engagement and action. A recap of the items discussed and the decisions made by this committee and all other affiliate legislative committees will be shared in the days ahead.
The ACCA offices are closed today, Sept. 4, in observance of Labor Day. The Association offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, Sept. 5.
